Healthy New Beginnings for Spring

Spring is a season of starting fresh and new beginnings. A time of transformation and renewal. Just breathing in the fresh spring air, for many, can evoke hope, newness, and change. We want to encourage you to take this time to reflect on your health, physical, mental and emotional. Try to do what you can to improve your days so your life can be as fulfilling as possible for you, and those you love. You can help prevent chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer with some of these healthy habits for spring.

Move More, Sit Less.

Get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity every week. That could mean 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Do muscle-strengthening activities 2 days a week.

Try Healthier Food Choices.

Avoiding fried foods and foods with refined sugars and high- glucose corn syrup can make a huge difference for your health. Try adding in some fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products.

Choose Your Drinks Wisely.

Water is your best choice! It prevents dehydration, headaches and constipation.

Sugary drinks can lead to weight gain and inflammation, and can increase your risk for developing diseases such as diabetes. Too much caffeine can give you the jitters or keep you from sleeping.

Get Enough Sleep.

Adults need at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Children ages 6 to 12 need 9–12 hours of sleep per night. Teens 13 to18 need 8–10 hours of sleep per night.
